The  treatment  begins  with :

1. ASSESSMENT  and  EXAMINATION

 

   Structure, function and behavior are evaluated at the first appointment after reviewing the medical history of the patient.

Some measurements and photographs are taken. Patient’s chewing ,swallowing ,speech ,posture and

breathing pattern are observed .Patient should expect both:

extraoral and intraoral examination .

 

2 DIAGNOSIS

Sometimes the proper diagnosis requires referral to other specialist such as Ear Nose and Throat doctor, orthodontist, speech pathologist,oral surgeon ,osteopath ,

lactation specialist etc.

Proper diagnosis influences a treatment plan .

 

3 IMPLEMENTATION OF TREATMENT

The treatment  usually  consists of few phases :

• intensive phase when noxious habits are eliminated an re-pattern of muscles occurs

•  maintenance  phase to protect against recurrence or relapse That phase relies on the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections and “learning“new patterns

• habituation  phase                                                             Habituation primarily refers to stimulus-response systems that are "hard-wired",for example the stimulus elicits the response in the absence of any training, as in reflexes.In other words the habituation phase is essential because we constantly lose the freshness of newly learned experiences.
